This book has got everything from mermaids and sea creatures to saving the planet and embracing different cultures. How awesome is that?
The story follows Mei, a mermaid who sets off on a quest set by Princess Hwangok to gather the Mermaids International Rescue Alliance (MIRA) from across Asia. Their objective is to halt Pirate Polymer from polluting the ocean with toxic waste and plastic.
What I loved most about this book is how it teaches kids about important environmental issues without being boring or preachy. Plus, the illustrations are super cool and make the story even more engaging. But that’s not all. The book also teaches valuable lessons about kindness, friendship, courage, and working together to protect our planet. And the inclusion of real-life locations from Asia-Pacific is a great way to introduce kids to geography, history, and different cultures.
